TIKAL, Guatemala, Central America. This program contains 131 high resolution images left behind by the ancient Maya, accompanied by appropriate textual comment. As a bonus, FILMTEAM has added a special section of the very revealing graffiti discovered during excavations at Tikal. Sadly the three Ts (time, tourists, and touching) have taken their toll since discovery; very few of these drawings are discernable today!
All of the carved stone monuments and altars in this disc were recorded en situ before they were replaced with cement replicas.
NAJ TUNICH, El Peten, Guatemala, Central America. The images on this disc are of the paintings found on the walls of the great cave, Naj Tunich, discovered and recorded in 1979. The 60 drawings herein contain hundreds of hieroglyphs and many scenes of sacred rites including penis mutilation (extremely rare depictions) for blood offerings to the gods.
Just two short decades after the jungle gave up its secret of Naj Tunich (which at the time was called “The greatest Maya discovery in half a century”) vandals and looters had destroyed many of the priceless drawings.
SOUTH COAST, Guatemala, Central America. Here in extreme detail are 79 photographs of unique stone monuments left behind by a strange people about which very little is known. We do know they were not Maya. One thing is certain however; because the theme of death and sacrifice is so prevalent in many of these “pictures in stone,” there can be little doubt that these were stressful times for whoever lived here!

The La Ruta Maya DVD |
|
FILMTEAM takes pride in announcing the release of this new DVD about an amazing people that lived in their own stone age, the ancient Maya. This collection of nearly 500 images, selected from thousands that were compiled over a quarter of a century, and contains images from some 60 Maya sites.
We travel visually from El Tajin in Mexico, to Zaculeju in Guatemala, witnessing where, and sometimes how they lived, and much of the flora and fauna they lived with. Along the way we will meet and learn something about the descendents of these ancient ones, many of whom still live almost exactly, including the worship of ancient gods, just as their ancestors did.
