Tikal, a magnificent Maya City

Many scholars, scientists, and hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world that have had the good fortune to have visited the great Maya city of Tikal, agree on one thing; what was found here—often that had to be excavated from the jungle debris of centuries—remains a tribute to an amazing people that had no metal, no wheel, and that existed in their own stone age.

From artifacts left behind, it is now known that these people reached a higher level of knowledge, advancement, and achievements in; art, writing, mathematics, astrology, and many other fields, and they did so in a much shorter time than any other race of aboriginals on the planet! They invented the concept of zero for example. They reached accomplishments in architecture so great, that many of their buildings are still standing today, centuries after they were abandoned! A Maya temple in the present day country of Belize, Central America, is still the tallest building in the country!

The Tikal CD takes the viewer through this amazing ancient city from the towering heights of its magnificent Temples to levels well beneath the present buildings, to the birds, animals and jungle they lived with.

A recent government program--initiated through necessity—has replaced all of the carved monuments at Tikal with cement replicas. The monuments contained in this, program are of the originals en situ.

As long as stone endures, Tikal will remain a tribute to an amazing race of people… the Maya.

In light of this FILMTEAM is offering a revised edition of Tikal, in this new CD. In the 131 high resolution images on the disc, the viewer is offered a unique view into the life and achievements of these remarkable people. Also included on the disc, to give the viewer a better “feel” for the place, are images of much of the flora and fauna that surrounded the ancient Maya, along with an added bonus: dozens of images of the original graffiti (well over a thousand years old) that has been mostly destroyed in the past several decades.

In the 70s, because of feared damage from things like acid rain and looters, it was decided to replace all of the carved monuments found here, with cement replicas. Every stelae and altar on the Tikal disc were recorded en situ, before this program was begun. Short of an actual visit to Tikal (highly recommended by the way), the Tikal CD is certainly the next best thing for the arm-chair traveler.
As long as stone endures, Tikal will remain an astounding tribute to an astounding ancient people, the Maya.
