The Maya Collection

To get these rubbings, the original stone or bone carving was photographed en situ, and the image carefully transferred onto a solid mahogany tablet, where it was meticulously carved out, neither adding nor deleting any detail.

A cotton/nylon material was then stretched over the tablet, and oil paint (the same as that used by the masters) was carefully applied to the relief with a small dauber, building up layers of color where needed.
